NED Fogle that fish can be saved from
winter kill, due to lack of oxygen, by
using outboard motors to a 100 foot
radius on the ice. This method worked
very well and has been used by club
members during years when severe
winterkill was imminent. The club
purchased a power auger to bore holes in
the ice, and also an oxygen sampling kit
to test the water in winter. 1971- The Club purchased from Harnischfeger Corporation of Escanaba a 20 ft. by 50ft. tent which was used for the annual July 4th festivities and picnics. During that winter, because of low water and heavy ice cover, practically all the fish in the lake died for lack of oxygen. The DNR was enjoined to check the lake and plant more fish. It was found that the lake still had bullheads and a small number of perch and northern pike. The DNR stocked the lake in 1978 with 4,000 bass and added 240 northern pike in 1979. 1978- Hermansville Lake celebrated
